** THIS IS A 4 SONG ALBUM **

The Ghost of Glyndowr

Glyndowr is real.

And Splithead is a ‘real’ ghost, at least in the collective consciousness of generations of young impressionable boarding school inmates.

The legend appears to date back to the mid 1700s, likely around the time a stone mason named Samuel Westbrook leased and built on the site of “Waste Court” on Bath Street, Abingdon, Oxfordshire in 1742 for the annual rate of three shillings and sixpence a year. Glyndowr itself wasn’t built until the early 1800s while Splithead had been displaced to various outbuildings through the intervening years.

I wrote the original version of “Ghost” for my 2016 album venice & beethoven after an extended break from music. Originally I had six verses, expanded over three different versions of the piece. It was originally intended as an EP, but only the first version was ever fully recorded. I was sidetracked by a variety of ideas, and what a variety of styles V&B indeed was. Finally, I’ve circled back to update and finish the project.

Tracks #1 & #3 are close to the original versions as I wrote and arranged them, while #2 “Darkfall” is entirely new, though the original lyrics for that variation remain the same.

Whitefields was another property on the same leased land, built a little later in the 19th century, and so #4 is a reimagining/re-mix of the original theme.

Thanks as usual to Michael McClure who, in this case, encouraged me to finish the original project. The motivation was in no small part due to the record cover that we put together: too much fun to pass up and perfect to slide into the playing device of your choice—or just stream it here—for Halloween!
